TODAY I'M

THANKFUL...
For my healthy body. It's been a whole month since my surgery. Aside from being tired, (night times with Ben will do that to me) I am back to normal. I even started back with my Muay Thai class and weekly basketball games. Tonight was NOT a good night. My plans were to go to my kickboxing class and head over to the gym for some basketball with my husband. Right before I left, I was hurrying down the stairs...and when I hit the bottom, I rolled my left ankle. (chronic basketball injury) As I was falling down, my neck hit the post on the metal gate we have at the bottom of the stairs. I'm lucky my neck wasn't punctured as the momentum of my fall was hard. I have a nice abrasion though. I shook it off and went to class anyway. After my class I drove over to the gym to meet Steve. I told him I probably wouldn't play because I was exhausted from my class AND I was afraid I might really injure my ankle because it was feeling weak. I gave in and decided to play. (they needed subs) My first trip down the floor, I jumped up for a rebound, came down and made a quick pass to my teammate. That's when I heard a "POP" in my left calf. Down I went. I couldn't even walk off the floor. It's amazing how necessary the calf muscle is to simply walk. I've never injured it before. Now I've torn it and I'll be on crutches for awhile. Because I know what it is like NOT to be healthy, it makes me even more thankful when my body is healthy and functioning.

I'm so sorry Becky. I tore my calf muscle before (ouch!), when I went to the sports med. dr. he said "you're 35 and you were in an aerobics class, right?" It was true. I had to stop running (etc.) for a while. I always have to grieve a bit with an injury. On the bright side...enjoy sitting on the couch for the holiday!! Take care! Nothing risky, K?!

O.K., Becky--enough is enough!! We're going to have to put you in a cage to keep you safe! Hope you heal quickly.

That's it! I'm going to have to install padding all over you!
